چکیده

Introduction Viability assessment by delayed-enhanced (DE) MR in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) can predict improvement of ejection fraction (EF) after revascularization. However it is implication on survival is incompletely understood. Several studies suggested that large amounts of of DE, ie non-viable myocardium, increase risk of death. However these studies did not take into account the presence of CAD and and the potential protective effect of revascularization therapy on outcome. Also they conflict with earlier work employing nuclear imaging or Dobutamine Echocardiography who reported that large amounts of viable myocardium predict worse outcome if such myocardium is not revascularized.

Prognostic significance of delayed-enhancement magnetic resonance imaging: survival of 857 patients with and without left ventricular dysfunction.

BACKGROUND Left ventricular ejection fraction is a powerful independent predictor of survival in cardiac patients, especially those with coronary artery disease. Delayed-enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (DE-MRI) can accurately identify irreversible myocardial injury with high spatial and contrast resolution. To date, relatively limited data are available on the prognostic value of DE-MRI,...

Changes in right ventricular function measured by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in patients receiving pulmonary arterial hypertension-targeted therapy: the EURO-MR study.

BACKGROUND Most measures that predict survival in pulmonary hypertension (PH) relate directly to, or correlate with, right ventricular (RV) function. Direct assessment of RV function using noninvasive techniques such as cardiac MRI may therefore be an appropriate way of determining response to therapy and monitoring disease progression in PH. METHODS AND RESULTS In this pan-European study, 91...

Temporal trends in the referral pattern to and yield of cardiac MRI: an analysis from Saudia Arabia

Results A total of 1,581 patients (38% females) were included. In first few years of the initiation of the service, most patients were referred for assessment of viability (54%) followed by assessment of etiology of cardiomyopathy (19%). However, in the subsequent years, viability referrals decreased and there was a steady increase in other indications (assessment of LV function, arrhythmias, c...

Exercise testing early after myocardial infarction.

A consecutive series of 179 survivors of acute myocardial infarction had a symptom-limited 12-lead electrocardiographic treadmill exercise test, coronary angiographic studies, and left ventriculograms six to eight weeks after infarction. The exercise-induced ST-segment responses were correlated with the presence of multivessel disease, the presence of advanced left ventricular wall motion abnor...

[Predictors of improved left ventricular systolic function after surgical revascularization in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy].

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Although it is known that the presence of myocardial viability predicts an increase in ejection fraction after revascularization in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, little is known about other predictive factors. The aim of this study was to identify variables that can predict an increase in ejection fraction after coronary revascularization surgery in patients...
